A cover built from the lyrics
Developed for the Digital Image Processing course at Escuela Da Vinci in Buenos Aires, this piece reimagines the cover of “Who Is It”, from Michael Jackson’s Dangerous. The starting point was a single scene from the music video, directed by David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club), and its half-noir, half-art-deco look.
The brief wasn’t only about photomontage technique: it asked for a visual story built out of the song’s lyrics.
From obvious to cryptic
The cover moved from obvious to cryptic as the work progressed, because the more literal version always said less. The final piece layers a woman’s face, a city at dusk and a lone figure walking through a doorway of light, with worn textures that make it feel like a half-remembered film still. Along the way, the same elements were tested in other directions: a violet version with the lyrics typed over the sky, and a high-contrast take in black and acid green.
On the big screen
The piece was selected for the first exhibition of the school’s new gallery, a fully digital space, and received a special mention at the opening, where certificates were handed to the selected students. Seeing it at that scale, in a room full of people, is a very different experience from seeing it on a laptop.
